Daily Guide to Your Best Life Month 3
The concept of ehad, of oneness and unity, is integral to God and the fabric that holds the universe together, yet it’s something we have heard very little about.

Ask anyone who has ever committed adultery how it felt when it was over. It leaves them disjointed and cracked. The problem with adultery is hardly sexuality. As a matter of fact, according to the ancient rabbis sex only comes into adultery in certain parts. They stated that most of adultery has nothing to do with sex. It’s anything that we do that sabotages ehad; that sabotages oneness. Ehad is a central word determining what God is like. This is why we are created to exist together, yet we strive against each other. That’s why we always feel it when there is strife in the room. Why? Because it is anti-oneness. A church can feel it when there’s division. Division is the opposite of oneness and it doesn’t feel good. When you walk into your house and there’s an atmosphere of ehad everything is fine, but each one of us has walked into our house and we can just tell something’s wrong. How many of you wives have any trouble letting your husband know there’s something wrong without uttering a word? You just put it in the air. It’s ehad. Husbands are the same way. Pink or blue, we’re all the same when it comes to that.

We know when oneness is present and we know when it’s not because we are made in the image of it. Deep down inside, the deepest cry of your heart, of my heart, of the church’s heart and all of creation’s heart is to be intimately connected in oneness. Why? Because God is one and we are made in His image.

Day One

God’s Creation Reflects His Image

You and I are made in the image of God, so if God is ehad and we are made in the image of God then we are, in fact, ehad. The church that reflects God is ehad. We are many members but one body - ehad. Your body, the body you live in, is ehad. You have many parts but it all comes together as a whole and if one part suffers everything suffers. Have you ever had kidney stones? Can you go to work with kidney stones? Are you a wimp if you don’t go to work when you have that condition? Your stomach is fine, your eyes are fine, your legs are fine, your hands are fine, your nose is fine, your feet are fine, your lungs are fine, your heart is fine and your mouth is fine. Only one little tiny part of your body could keep you out of work? It’s because you are ehad. When something affects the part it affects the whole.

This world is ehad. This world is many different parts but it is all together as one. I have been told that if the temperature of the oceans changes too much it could devastate our climate. That’s ehad. Governments and people all over the world are working towards going green. Why? Because we are told that our carbon emissions are overcoming the oxygen that the trees put into the atmosphere. Those of us who fly frequently are being told that we should plant trees to overcome the carbon emissions that we are responsible for. How is an airplane and I sitting in it related to you and the atmosphere of the earth? There’s only one reason…ehad.

God is ehad and God’s creation reflects His image. If God is ehad and you are made in the image of God which is ehad, then it stands to reason that you would find your fulfillment in pursuing unity, in pursuing something that isn’t broken. Your completion is found in ehad and your destruction is found in anything that sabotages ehad, because anything that sabotages ehad sabotages the nature of God Himself. The Bible says both that God is ehad and that He holds the universe together. So the very force that holds this entire universe together is actually a force called oneness, or unity, or ehad. It follows that if we do something that sabotages oneness, then we are actually going against the very fabric of the power that holds the entire universe together. Since you are a part of that universe, when you do something that goes against what holds the world together it tears us apart as it tears the universe apart.

It is an amazing concept to realize that your actions, reactions and words have the power to affect the universe. Spend some time today meditating on this concept and it will bring new importance to all that you do.
